Before 1999, a science-fiction/action film with intellect and imagery was virtually unheard of.  Beyond the Kubrick classic 2001 and Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, the pickings are slim.  However, when The Matrix arrived and educated audiences that “there is no spoon,” one could immediately crown this masterful mind-trip of a motion-picture a gem in the science-fiction sort, the apex of action, and the true zenith of its kind.
